As a relationships grow, over time it is common to see individual priorities within a relationship, begin to change.   Work demands may increase, family members may become ill or perhaps another child is born…whatever the shift in the relationship dynamic, these changes can sometimes cause stress and result in relationship breakdown.

At other times, perhaps there has been infidelity and it seems as if the relationship will never recover.

And then there are times when members of the relationship may engage in unhealthy behaviours, such as violence, gambling or addiction, and these contribute to relationship breakdown.

Relationship breakdown may result in changes in

  • intimacy and affection

  • understanding and communication

  • respect and consideration

  • or simply interest in one another

  • leading to a wondering about whether you should remain together

The earlier that these challenges are addressed, the more likely it is that we can help you as a couple

  • develop positive communication skills

  • assist you in addressing conflict within your relationship

  • rediscover intimacy

  • address the impact of relationship disharmony upon your children

How we do it

We do this by bringing focus to a number of aspects of you relationship.  We look at the dynamics between you and your partner, exploring how these patterns have come to be.  We establish what it is that you want in your relationship and determine what brings positive repair to your relationship.  We teach you how to communicate open and honestly in a way that feels good for both of you.  We help you reconnect to the spark that brought you together, and in all of this celebrate the positive shifts you achieve.

There are other times however, that our work may need to be about separating in a way that both parties feel whole.

Initial sessions run for 75 minutes and all other subsequent sessions are 60 minutes in length.

If you would like to speak to someone about the possibility of addressing some difficulties in your relationship or working to enhance your relationship, please contact us at 03-9532-4567 or book online via our Online BOOKING service.

When To See A Marriage Counsellor Online?

Couples should see a marriage counsellor before they feel a strong need to see one. Circumstances that lead to this need are rarely sudden. More often than not, relationship breakdown is a gradual process - and waiting too long for counselling might cause more problems.

Relationship breakdown - and the subsequent thought of separation - leads couples to seek a marriage counsellor to help save their marriage through relationship breakdown counselling sessions. Fortunately here at The Grove Counselling, we have specialised therapists with years of experience in marriage counselling.

Our therapists are now available online to make it easier for you and your spouse to attend regular sessions. Sometimes, couples wait for a long time before seeking counselling for relationship breakdowns because they feel it would be an inconvenience to attend in person, or even can’t face the idea of co-ordinating times with their significant other due to communication issues. Online sessions make it that much easier for everyone to attend and begin the healing process.

Looking for Online Marriage Counselling in Australia?

If you’ve been seeking marriage counselling in Melbourne, you may be wondering what you will gain from it. At some point, many marriages will experience a breakdown in the key essences of a relationship, such as communication and trust. It can be worrying to discover that your marriage is not the same as it once was and you may even feel like you’ve lost the spark you once had. It can result in repeated arguments, feelings of resentment building up and loss of intimacy in a marriage. If you feel like you’re drifting apart from your spouse, whether the problem stems from the impact of additions, financial stress, becoming parents or something else, a therapist may be able to help.

An outside perspective of an online marriage counsellor can support a couple in finding more productive ways to communicate and help with conflict resolution. If you are stuck in the same unproductive patterns of communication, a therapist may be able to highlight where the breakdown occurs.

The Benefits of Marriage Counselling Online

Marriage counselling can be a good avenue to explore for dealing with conflict in your relationship in a healthier way. Marriage counselling online is similar to in-person marriage guidance counselling, with the main distinction being that it takes place online. It can be just as effective when tackling trust issues, enhancing communication, and ultimately working to reduce conflict in the marriage.

Online counselling sessions for marriage may be more practical for some couples. You may have been deterred from pursuing marriage counselling if you have limited access to therapists locally. It is a convenient and more accessible alternative for stay-at-home parents or those who want to avoid a commute. It enables couples in a long-distance marriage to have a viable alternative to in-person therapy.

Is Online Relationship Breakdown Counselling Effective?

Online marriage counselling is just as effective as in-person couples counselling. It’s all a matter of preference. During a relationship breakdown couselling session - especially at the beginning of the journey - it can be hard for a couple to work together in person. Communication, interaction, and intimacy are things you both might need to relearn. And the tools you need are not available specifically in-person. You can learn them just as effectively through online therapy.

Separation can be a difficult experience, and when faced with that alternative, many couples work harder during their online couples therapy to refind one another. Having your sessions online may just give you the safety and security to speak openly and honestly with your partner about the issues that have been bothering you. Equally, you may find it easier to hear what your partner also has to say.
